The goldsmith Andrea Schwär from Kiel/Germany works with gold, silver, palladium as well as iron and copper. In combination with other materials like enamel, jewels, wood or felt, precious objects are created.

Her work is also shaped by phases. Sometimes she improves rusty iron objects with beaten gold and at other times she melts enamel on copper plates to produce valuable pendants or images.

Lapis lazuli, coral, aquamarine, tourmaline, amber and chrysopras – again and again colourful accents appear in her pieces of jewellery.

The ideas of customers are a fruitful inspiration to Andrea Schwär, this way, fancy commissions like a silver tiara of inherited jewels, an enamelled belt buckle with hummingbird motif or a bi-coloured heart-shaped medallion come into being.

But the goldsmith also likes to realize less spectacular commissions like classic wedding rings, bracelets, earrings or brooches.

The artist from Kiel conceives jewellery as a kind of communication. On the one hand the material, the a found object or a form appeals to her, on the other hand the completed piece of jewellery sends signals to its environment, but also barer is included in the system. He decides in favour of the trinket which evolves its special effect on the barer. Especially this communication enriches the work and makes interesting.

In August 2004 a new period has began for Andrea Schwär. She boxed her equipment into a small bus and started for the Finnish Ilmajoki to open a goldsmith's shop there at the arts centre. In the romantic location at bank of the river Kyrönjoki, she plans new projects in the quietness of Finland: She uses the also in Finland popular felt for colourful and soft necklaces with a silver middle part in form of a blossom, a fish or a heart.

Furthermore the goldsmith Andrea Schwär gives Finish minerals a setting which will be presented together with photos of regions of origin in exhibitions in Germany and Finland.

In August 2005 Andrea Schwär returns to Germany.
